Leiden Pride anti-intimidation, harassment, and discrimination policy
Last updated 2020-09-16
Leiden Pride is committed to creating queer spaces for everyone, free of intimidation, harassment, and discrimination, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, or religion. We do not tolerate the intimidation, harassment, or discrimination of event or initiative participants in any form.
Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any events or initiatives. Event or initiative participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled without a refund at the discretion of the event or initiative organisers.
Exception: For the duration of some events and initiatives, the discussion or images related to sex, pornography, discriminatory language, or similar might be welcome if it meets all of the following criteria:
- The event or initiative organisers have specifically granted permission in writing.
- It is necessary to the topic of discussion and no alternative exists.
- It is presented in a respectful manner.
- Attendees are warned in advance in the programme and respectfully given ample warning and opportunity to leave beforehand.
Intimidation, harassment, and discrimination includes, but is not limited to:
- Threats of violence (verbal, written, or physical).
- Inappropriate physical contact.
- Unwelcome sexual attention.
- Verbal or written comments that reinforce social structures of domination related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, or religion.
- Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following.
- Harassing photography or recording.
- Sustained disruption of lectures or other events
- Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behaviour.
We think people should follow these rules wherever they go, and we expect participants to follow them at all Leiden Pride events and initiatives. Any threats of violence (verbal, written, or physical) will be reported by our team to local law enforcement authorities. In case of a violent incident, please contact 112 immediately.
Participants asked to stop any harassing or discriminatory behavior are expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in harassing or discriminatory behaviour, Leiden Pride and other event organisers retain the right to take any actions to keep a welcoming environment for all other participants. This includes warning the offender or expulsion from the event or initiative with no refund, as well as taking action to redress anything designed to, or with the clear impact of, disrupting the event or making the environment hostile for any participants (e.g. removing materials, ending lecture, etc).
If someone makes you or anyone else feel unsafe or unwelcome, please report it to us as soon as possible. We want all of our participants to feel safe. Intimidation, harassment, and discrimination are not tolerated. You can make a report either personally or online.
When reporting an incident in person, our team will ensure you are safe and cannot be overheard. You can bring someone to support you. You will not be asked to confront anyone and we will not tell anyone who you are. Our team can help you contact venue security, local law enforcement, local support services, provide escorts, or otherwise assist you to feel safe for the duration of the event. If you perceive the situation to be serious and there is no Leiden Pride team member in sight, we ask you to please contact the authorities (0900-8844).
When reporting an incident online, our team will ensure that efforts are made to help with any investigation and take whatever action is necessary to prevent a recurrence. Your information will not be transferred to anyone else without your permission. During the event, our contact person can be contacted through the last number available in the WhatsApp event announcements. This phone number will be continuously monitored for the duration of the event. After the event, you can email us directly at email@example.com.
